Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious trophy on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
