One-time National Football League player Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to confront an attempted murder accusation connected with a shooting that happened in May, as his lawyer entering a innocent response on his behalf.
Detention documents in Essex, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was released on Tuesday early for his relocation to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous athletes in the National Football League, had forgone extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was detained after being arrested in the city of Dubai.
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an communication that he has earlier filed a written innocent declaration to the attempted murder accusation. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as early as Wednesday morning for a release session, Eiglarsh added.
Based on his arrest warrant, Brown is accused of seizing a handgun from a security guard after a celebrity match contest in May and firing multiple rounds at a man he had confronted with earlier. The reported target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to investigators that one of the bullets grazed his neck.
Eiglarsh said that Brown was only safeguarding himself from Nantambu.
“The actions he was forced to take were purely in self-defense against the reported person’s aggressive behavior. Brown was assaulted that time and responded within his rightful privilege to defend himself,” Eiglarsh commented.
Brown was not right away arrested because at first police did not identify Nantambu as a target. It wasn’t until later in May that Nantambu delivered a full statement about the situation to police and identified Brown as the perpetrator, the report states.
Based on his social media updates, Brown had been staying in the city of Dubai for several period. In a post after the altercation, Brown claimed he was defending himself because he was “assaulted by numerous people who sought to rob my valuables and cause bodily harm to me.”
A category two murder attempt charge in the state of Florida imposes a maximum 15-year incarceration term and up to a $10,000 fine in the event of a finding.
Brown has dealt with numerous judicial challenges over the years. He before had been charged of battery of a delivery driver, multiple family violence charges, neglect to pay family payments and additional events.
In a 2021 season game with the Buccaneers against the opponents, Brown took off his shirt, equipment and gloves and ran off the field, causing his dismissal by the Buccaneers and practically halting his football career.
